Recently I came across a photograph showing the view of earth from the lunar surface. What a breathtaking image it is! I don't know why but I can't stop looking at it.I am in love with this photograph even though I have seen it a lot of times in the past too.We all love our mother earth don't we?How she sustains us unconditionally. We are born here, play for a lifetime then leave, just the way it is.Looking at the earth, the tiny blue sphere that it appears like from the lunar surface made me realize how tiny we humans are in the scheme of things. At the same time it made me forget all the day to day worries we face.
There have been a lot of questions in my mind, regarding the origin of life, the purpose of it as well as the sustainability.Somehow,I don't agree with the explanation religions provides with the creationist theory. The scientific theory of the evolution provides some answers, but to only an extent.I believe it has a long way to go before it offers a comprehensive explanation.Until it is achieved,I guess we have to keep looking for answers on our own.We have millions of life forms here on earth and who knows elsewhere too,yet we are clueless when questions are asked regarding the origin. The entire nature seems to be in a perfect balance, every life-form has the ability to sustain itself, irrespective of the situation it may face. From tiny invisible microbes to organisms as huge as some mammals, every life form is equipped with the talent to sustain itself.could there be a grand design behind it?Or is it by mere chance?I don't understand at all,but keep looking for answers.
So far we have not been able to find life forms outside of the earth, but it may be due to limitation of our knowledge, which opens a possibility of such discovery in near future, when we are advanced enough. If we manage to find life forms other than earth it will open doors to a whole new range of possibilities and probably shed the curtains on the origin of life itself. We have plenty of theories around, each with own following, explaining the origin. Some credit the extra terrestrial objects, some say it all started in the oceans but many are not sure.I guess in a lifetime or so,we might have some information.Until then people have the liberty to interpret the things however they want to!
The nature just seems hanging in the right balance, all the universal constants have to be of the exact value that they are,for the nature to work properly. All the laws of physics we have discovered until now,and who knows how many are there to discover seem to point towards a ordered nature working within the laws just perfectly.Just imagine we are the exactly 'right' distance from sun,a little farther and our planet would have been colder,a little closer the temperatures would have been too high to survive. Then in our galaxy too,we are at a significant distance from the centre.Who knows had we been at the centre, our solar system might have been sucked up by the black hole! There are a lot of other galaxies too receding away from us.Who knows what its like in those places? Is it possible there are a lot of earth like planets on them too? What if we manage to find one of them? Our cosmic loneliness will end that day. We'll start thinking differently for sure, and it'll be dawn of a new era in human history. Our capabilities restrict us to explore within a limited zone at the moment, but this will change in time to come.
These days,we are busy exploring possibilities for life on mars, our nearest planet. With traces of water present,it won't be surprising if we start inhabiting there in the coming decades. Our technological advancement seems to be leading that way.Thought of settling on mars has been in the news for decades now,its only in the past few years that people have started taking it seriously. We might see in the coming days,a colony on mars.I imagine what the view of our planet earth will be from there!A tiny dot just like we see mars from here. The people living there will certainly be amazed at the wonderful dot in the martian sky!!!!!!
